Jimmy the Dud

At the intersection of prairie and desert, just before the sun reaches its zenith and the clock on the bell tower strikes noon, Jimmy the Dud and Johnny the Beard will take their positions for a cowboy duel. Their hands will hover near their revolvers, secured in heavy leather holsters. When the bell tolls for the first time, Jimmy and Johnny will step apart in their boots—one step, another, and then a third. They will reach for their revolvers and aim at each other. The duel will irrevocably change their lives—one of their bullets will find its way to the other’s heart, while the other’s words will strike the first directly in the heart.
In his quest to prove he is the best gunslinger in the world, Jimmy the Dud embarks on the adventure of a lifetime, one that will challenge everything he thinks he knows about himself and his identity.

Performance Jimmy the Dud, using the Western genre, tells an archetypal story about a son and a father—about their physical separation but unbreakable inner connection and the son’s paradoxical need to both connect with and separate from his father – and patriarchy. The play itself offers no help to the son in resolving this tension. But the audience just might.
