A total of thirteen applications were received for the competition for the development of dramatic texts of the second edition of the New Stages project, organized by the Goethe-Institut Kroatien , the professional association SPID – Alliance of Screenwriters and Writers of Performing Works, KunstTeatra and the Croatian ITI Center .
The four-member jury that decided on the results of the competition consisted of a playwright and the main mentor Ivor Martinić , president of the Croatian ITI Center Željka Turčinović , playwright and vice president of SPID Jelena Kovačić and theater producer and co-founder of KunstTeatr Roman Brajša chose three participants who will work on the development of their dramatic texts as part of the program:
- Monika Herceg – Fucked girls
- Beatrica Kurbel – Still life
- Karla Leko – Score of silence
These are authors who stood out for their thematic preoccupations, specific dramaturgical approaches, poetic diversity and highly articulated motivation . All three authors very successfully diagnose reality by dealing with different topics, focusing on strong female characters, through their stories, dissolving our modernity. The authors will spend three months working on the further development of their dramatic texts in cooperation with mentor Ivor Martinić , and through a dramaturgical workshop with playwrights and drama writers Lucia Klarić and Ivana Vuković .
New Stages is the second edition of the project organized by the Goethe-Institut Kroatien, professional association SPID – Union of Screenwriters and Writers of Performing Works, KunstTeatar and Croatian Center ITI. The project is focused on the development of new dramatic texts by authors of the younger generation, their active positioning on the theater and literary scene, the contextualization of contemporary dramatic writing, and the problematization of the position of contemporary playwrights in Croatia.
The project takes place in two phases. In the first phase, during 2023. participants will develop their own dramatic texts, the final versions of which will be published in Kazalište magazine in cooperation with the Croatian ITI Center. As part of the project, a round table entitled ” How much does one dramatic text cost?” will be organized on the topic of fair compensation for the purchase of original dramatic texts.
Activities in the second phase of the project during 2024. include staged readings of completed dramatic texts in cooperation with KunstTeatr. The readings will be open to the public. The details will be coordinated with participants and partners, and published at the end of 2023. years.
